Croydon Judo Club on Tour to the AM–CAN International Judo Challenge On Thursday 23rd May 2019 a combined group of Judoka from various London Judo Clubs set off to travel to Canada to attend the annual AM-CAN International Judo Challenge to represent Croydon Judo Club From left to right Clement Raphael, Jacqui Lloyd, Brian Curran (Coach), Victor Brandao and Nicole Simpson On arrival to Canada we quickly made our way to the car hire desk to collect our vehicle as we had another 2 hour drive to the Canadian / American boarder crossing. On arrival at the hotel in Buffalo everyone quickly retired to their rooms as they were all very tired. The following day 24/5/19 was spent sightseeing at Niagra Falls on the American side. Day 2 in America was the weigh in day and the Team all made their respective weights. Day 3 in America was the day of the tournament the team had to be up and ready to leave the hotel for 7.30am as we had a 40 minute drive to the venue to attend the opening ceremony. First up to compete were the Masters Men, both Victor and Clement won Gold in their weight groups. Next up were the Masters Women where Nicole won a Silver and Jacqui won a Bronze. But the fun did not stop there, at the end of the tournament the Croydon combined Judo Team were awarded the best International Team trophy and the best Senior Team trophy along with a $500 dollar prize. The team travelled back to Canada that evening where we stayed in the area of Burlington, on the 2nd and 4th nights in Burlington we were invited to train at the Full Circle Judo Club hosted by Ron and Tracey Angus. If you are ever in the Burlington area of Canada and you fancy a good training session this club is highly recommended as you will receive a fantastic welcome and a great training session.
